1. Visitor visa (subclass 600)
Available to all nationalities.
This is the most commonly used visa for people who are:

Not eligible for the ETA or eVisitor

Applying for longer stays (up to 12 months)

Seeking a sponsored family visit

Travelling for medical reasons or business meetings

Visitor visa steam options

Tourist stream – Visit for holidays or to see family and friends.

Sponsored Family stream – Visit family in Australia with sponsorship by an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Business Visitor stream – Short-term business activities such as attending meetings or conferences.

Approved Destination Status stream – For citizens of certain areas of China on tour groups.

Frequent Traveller stream – For high-frequency travellers, particularly Chinese passport holders.

How Long Can You Stay?
Visitor visas can be granted for stays of up to 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on your purpose of travel and personal circumstances.

Visitor visas have a high refusal rate​
It is very common for the Department to refuse an application for a Visitor visa and normally refusals are based on the following reasons:

Inadequate evidence of ties to your home country.

Insufficient financial documentation.

Inconsistent or unclear travel history.

Lack of clarity about your visit purpose.

This visa allows short stays for tourism or business visitor activities and can be granted quickly.

3. Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (subclass 601)
ETA is suitable for short visits (tourism or business) up to 3 months at a time.​
