Partner Visa Pathways

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

Be in a genuine, ongoing relationship
Be married or in a de facto relationship (12 months cohabitation or registered)
Be sponsored by your partner who is an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
Meet health and character requirements

Supporting evidence you’ll need

Shared finances (bank account statements, joint lease agreements, utility bills, fund transfers)
Living arrangements (proof of cohabitation or intention to cohabitate)
Social proof (photos, joint invitations, supporting witnesses)
Commitment to each other (future plans, communication)
Police checks from every country you have resided for more than 12 months
Notice of Intention to Marry certificate
Single Status Certificate

How Long Does It Take?

Processing times vary, but many partner visas take 10–30 months. The permanent stage is typically assessed 2 years after your initial application. Please visit the Department's website for the most accurate information on visa timeframes.
