Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa
 

The Skills in Demand visa is a new pathway replacing the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa. It includes three streams:

  1. Core Skills Stream

  2. Specialist Skills Stream

  3. Labour Agreement Stream

Core Skills Stream – For Visa Applicants

This stream is for skilled workers in occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Stay in Australia for up to 4 years (or 5 years if you hold a Hong Kong passport)

  • No age limit

  • Apply from inside or outside Australia

  • Must be nominated by an approved sponsor

  • Your occupation must be listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

  • You must be employed in the nominated occupation by the sponsoring employer

  • Skills assessment may be required (depending on the occupation)

  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience

  • Hold adequate health insurance during your stay (unless covered by a reciprocal healthcare agreement)

  • Meet health and character requirements

  • English language requirements apply (exemptions available in some cases)

 

Visa fees and charges

You will be required to pay the following fees and charges:

1. Department's Visa Application Charge:  Please visit the Department's website for the current Visa Application Charge.​

3. Third party costs may be necessary such as: document translation services, language interpreters, police checks, biometrics, health examinations, skills assessment costs.

​How Long Does It Take?

Processing times vary, but many Skills in Demand visas take between 7 to12 weeks once the visa application has been lodged.  However please note that the application for standard business sponsorship and nomination must be approved first.  Please visit the Department's website for the most accurate information on visa timeframes.

Core Skills Stream – For Employers

If you're an employer seeking to sponsor a skilled worker under this stream, you must:

 

Sponsorship Requirements:

  • Be an approved Standard Business Sponsor

  • Nominate the worker for an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

You must also demonstrate: 

  • Labour Market Testing (LMT) has been completed

  • The proposed salary matches the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR)

  • You must provide evidence showing how AMSR was determined

  • The salary offered is above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)

  • The position is genuinely available

  • A written employment contract is provided

  • Employment conditions are equivalent to those of Australian workers

  • Financial documents must be provided such as bank statements, BAS, Tax Returns.

  • Documents showing the structure of the business must be provided, such as organisation charts, other employment contracts and payslips.

 

Sponsorship Costs:

Sponsors are responsible for the payment of the following costs:

  1. Sponsorship application fee

  2. Nomination fee

  3. Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy
